Picnic Pavilion at CSD YMCA

The Rotary Club of Lake Wylie has been working with the Clover School District Community YMCA to help provide funds for the construction of a covered picnic pavilion at the Clover School District YMCA. The CSD Community YMCA is one of twelve branches affiliated with the Upper Palmetto YMCA. The LakeWylie and Clover branches serve over 8,500 active members, and they operate an After School and Summer Day Camp program that provides care to approximately 650 children annually.

Currently, there is little shade provided on site and there is not an outdoor area conducive to group activities. An outdoor pavilion will provide shade and seating for children from both the YMCA and the adjacent elementary school to participate in outdoor activities year round. In addition, a pavilion will provide a perfect outdoor classroom for students from Crowders Creek Elementary School, as well as a great venue for all types of community events.

The pavilion will benefit many groups in the community including swim teams, after-school programs, summer camps, students and faculty events, parents and children using the ball fields and park, as well as family and business groups.

Once constructed, the CSD Community YMCA will be responsible for preserving the building as well as providing cleanup of the area and any needed routine maintenance.

The first phase of the project was the acquisition and assembly of high-quality picnic tables for use in the pavilion. This was paid for through funds raised for the project and matched by a Rotary Foundation grant. The picnic tables are already in use at the YMCA facility.

The final phase of the project is pending approval of a master site plan from the Upper Palmetto YMCA and the Clover School District.
