Fighting Hunger

The club routinely makes efforts to fight hunger in our community through food drives and other initiatives. In October of 2020, the Lake Wylie Rotary Club held a food drive for the Clover Area Assistance Center (“CAAC”) and collected 500lbs of food and $2,700 in monetary donations.

In March and April of 2019, the Lake Wylie Rotary Club and the Clover Rotary Club challenged each other to collect the largest amount of food for the CAAC. The wager? The losing club had to pay for a happy hour social for the winning club.

When the final numbers were revealed on April 11, the biggest winner was the CAAC! Combined the two Rotary Clubs collected in excess of 2 tons of food (4,084.55 pounds to be exact) to help feed those in need in Clover and Lake Wylie. The Lake Wylie Rotarians won the challenge by collecting 2,567.95 pounds of food, while the Clover Rotarians bought in 1,516.60 pounds. Both clubs demonstrated “Service Above Self” by bringing much-needed food to CAAC during two of the slowest collection months of the year.

Thanksgiving Turkeys

Annually, the Lake Wylie Rotary Club works with the Clover School Districts Backpack program to provide Thanksgiving Turkeys to families in need. In addition to providing the turkeys, Rotarians also deliver the turkeys to the families in need as many of them also struggle with transportation.
